brmail

A personal email triage tool for one Gmail account.

brmail sorts a single person's Gmail. It reads message headers, files each message under a topic label, and leaves only mail that needs an action in the inbox. It is not a product, not a service, and has no users other than its author.

What it does

• Applies one topic label per message, under a brmail/ prefix.
• Removes INBOX from mail judged not to need an action.
• Proposes old mail for deletion, after a review period the account owner controls.

What it does not do

• It does not read message bodies or attachments.
• It does not send email.
• It does not delete anything permanently — deletion means Gmail's Trash, which Gmail empties on its own schedule.
• It has no accounts, no sign-up, and stores nothing about anyone else.

Why it exists

Commercial mail-triage services work, but they read your mail on their servers and file it by rules you cannot inspect. This does the same job on the owner's own machine, with the rules written down in a file he can read and change.
